U17 Brunner Wonders March on to Leinster Final

St Paul’s CBS 4                                      Dundalk Grammar School 2

St Paul’s CBS U17 played out a fantastic 4-2 victory over a very talented Dundalk Grammar School in Castletown, With the sides locked at 0-0 at half time, a stirring team talk from the management visibly lifted the Brunner Boys as they restarted with great gusto. Having survived a scare when the Dundalk centre forward hit the outside of the post with a rasping strike, St Paul’s CBS soon fashioned an opening at the opposite end and made no mistake as they took a well deserved 1-0 lead. It was soon 2-0 as some clever off the ball running from the front two created space for one of the midfield dynamos to break through and finish to the back of the net with some aplomb.

While many teams might have folded at that point Dundalk showed their character as they fought back and got a deserved goal when their No. 7 found the corner of the net with a powerful twenty yard strike  to the bottom right hand corner leaving the Brunner net-minder, who produced an excellent display, with no chance.

However, just as Dundalk showed their character St Paul’s CBS then showed the spirit that has taken them this far in the competition. They maintained their shape and continued to play a brand of passing football which would make Messi proud. Two more goals followed as a reward before Dundalk pulled one back just before the final whistle.

The game was played with excellent skill and in great spirit and St Paul’s CBS now advance to the Leinster Final. The date and venue for that game has to be confirmed.
