U16 Gaelic Footballers Victorious

gaa_logoOn Friday the 21st of November the Brunner Boys took on St Johns of Ballyfermot in the First Group game of the 2014/15 championship. The game was played in terrible conditions with rain, wind and the cold to content with. The game started with aGood opening attack and great point by Jordan. The Brunner boys found their rhythm early on as their was some great passing that led ot a Great pass over the top to  Daniel McKenna who scored the first of his goals. Daniel soon got his second goal when he finished with the ball on he ground after Jordan had delivered the early pass. Great defending by Dammy created attack but went wide Jordan.

Ballyfermot struggled to contain Brunner fast forwards which resulted in a Well earned free for Daniel and kicked by Daniel. Good attacking play and another point soon followed and was finished by Jordan who made a long solo run to score. Karl Towell then joint in on the scoring with a well taken point. Jordan then won a free and scored it himself. Another goal by Daniel who had scored 3- 1 at this stage. Good work rate at midfield led to a chance for Karl O’Hara who hit the post. Daniel made a great solo run and scored another point. Good defending at corner forward Alan McKenna which demonstrated the work ate of the team lead to a Daniel shot hitting the post, but cousin Alan finished the move he worked so hard for by scoring his first score of the day.

Alan McKenna got a point soon after a good solo run by Karl Towell. Ballyfermot although under pressure were fast on the counter attack and scored a good point. Brunner had some good defenders with a good block Darragh. Lee and Dammy. Darragh led with some excellent blocks in the closing stages of the first half.  4-7 1-3 at half time. Second half stated where the first left of with a point from Daniel McKenna. Pressure from Ballyfermot then came as they had a strong wind at their backs for the second half which led to an early point. Playing against strong wind put more pressure on the defence worked hard which allowed a quick counter saved initially but then and knocked in by Daniel.  A stylish Soccer finish to the goal by Daniel who received the pass from Connor Duff. Jordan and  Connor play a quick 1-2 before Connor scored the point. The second half saw some long periods of pressure on Brunner’s defence but they stood strong and worked hard for the entire game.
The final score was 6-9 3-8 to St Paul’s.
