Gaelic FootballWell done to our U14 Gaelic football team in their match today against our fellow Christian Brothers school, O’Connell’s CBS. However, they battled hard to the final whistle and the spirit they showed will stand to them as they move on to their next game. For the full report read on:

U14 Gaelic Football Team

On a bright afternoon with a strong wind blowing down field the U14 team got off to a positive start. Two near goal chances missed, good attitude and approach play.  A long range free from Darragh led to a quick recycle and a point from Glenn, great move. The defenders were putting in a huge effort to keep out the Opposition.

A block from Darragh and again from the resulting play another block from Darragh, showing real determination, held out the danger.
The lads were caught out when they conceded a goal off a long range effort that hit the bar and a quick follow up goal.

Hard work from Brandon to get the ball up the field led to a fine point at the other end from the boot of Glenn. A lot of good work from Dylan and at centre back he was linking the play and a quick break from Mark saw Troy take a nice point straight off the laces.
Powerful running from O’Connell’s midfield was causing problems and two quick scores saw them take the lead 1-1 to 0-3. A Wind assisted long ball led to the lads conceding another goal. More clinical finishing was needed.

The response was immediate Mark on the end of a long free took a quality point. The long ball however was causing St. Paul’s problems and soon after a spell of possession another goal was conceded for the Brunner lads. They went in at half time down by 6 points.

Second Half
With the wind at their backs the Brunner lads had a great start with a clever move and a well taken point from Glenn. A lucky goal from the opposition had them extend the lead soon after however.
Great defending from Dylan and block on the line from Kayleum led to a goal and a quick point at the other end for St. Paul’s.

The next move was the play of the game, a long kick out from Lee was flicked on by Troy, Calvin then threaded a perfectly weighted through ball and Andrew provided the finish into the bottom corner. Darragh then pointed from a free to bring it back to three points in the difference.

Jack saved a point blank effort it was followed up with a point for O’ Connell’s. The Brunner lads dug deep getting a much needed point from Hayden. Troy pounced on a breaking ball smashing it into the goal it gave the lads a lifeline!

Hayden had a great effort but it was a fraction wide and a point for O’Connell’s at the other end put them four in front.
With little time left a break from deep in the full back line and some quality passing resulted in a well taken goal for Andrew. Trojan defending from Lee denied the opposition and the team put in every effort until the final whistle.

It was a hard fought game to the very end but missed chances and a quality opposition saw the lads narrowly defeated on the day.
