Transition Year Food Art Project – Hugh Lane Gallery, Chapter One & St Pauls CBS

In September of this year the Transition Year students of St Pauls were invited to take part in a very  dynamic &  prestigious event with Hugh Lane Gallery and Chapter One Restaurant .

The students along with their Art teacher Ms Heffernan and Home Economics teacher Ms Lawlor would embark on a 6 week project to create an art installation inspired by Ross Lewis and Chapter One which would be exhibited in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin for the coming months.

On our first trip up to the Hugh Lane Gallery we were greeted by the Education Curator Sile Goodwin McNulty and her wonderful staff who all brought the project to life for us.

The students were introduced to two wonderful Dublin based artists who would facilitate, inspire and direct the entire project – Beth O Halloran and Felecity Clear.

We had our very first session in the beautiful Chapter One restaurant where we were given a guided tour by the restaurant manager Declan Maxwell who gave us a real insight into the running of a true Michelin star operation. We were told of the rich history and culture of the building which is located in the basement of the Dublin writers Museum (former home of John Jameson) .

From here we met Head Chef Andy and then had a tour of the kitchen with Ross Lewis. All of this proved hugely inspirational in developing the concept for the installation.

On rounding up our visit to the restaurant Ross answered all of our many question and proceeded to personally sign a copy of his cookbook for each student.
