Brunner’s Charity Fundraising

Transition Year students from St Paul’s CBS took to the streets on Friday December 11th fundraising for the charity Threshold. Threshold was founded in 1978 and is a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to secure a right to housing, particularly for households experiencing the problems of poverty and exclusion. In the past couple of weeks students fron Brunner’s 6th Year have also engaged in fundraising on behalf of a range of charities including the Central Remedial Clinic and Temple Street Hospital.

The school choir also offered their considerable talents to the fundraising efforts. Earlier this week, under the baton of Ms Valerie Roe they took up residence on Henry Street and treated Christmas shoppers to a selection of festive favourites. Indeed, so impressive were their efforts that RTE cameras soon arrived on the scene to film them for a Yuletide episode of the popular TV show O’Gorman’s People.

Ms Joy Maguire, the TY co-ordinator said that she was delighted with the enthusiasm and the generosity of spirit that the Brunner students showed. “At this time of year, particularly with the difficult economic circumstances the country finds itself in, it’s wonderful to see our students so willing to work voluntarily on behalf of those less fortunate.” This sentiment was shared by the 3rd Year Head Mr Dave Mangan who stated that the students were a credit to the school and to their families.
